Medalling in it

Posted by Rich on 30 November 2010

Isle of Wight Soft and Gallybagger took Bronze medals in their categories at this years' World Cheese Awards.

Run by the Guild of Fine Food, the event was held at the NEC in Birmingham as part of the BBC Good Food Show.

In all, 2,629 cheeses were entered and only a couple of hundred received medals so naturally we're chuffed to bits to have added to the bronze medal that Gallybagger took at the British Cheese Awards earlier in the year.

We've embarked on quite a bit of expansion this year at Queenbower with a new larger vat arriving, so it's nice to be rewarded with a medal that shows that we're still producing the level of artisan quality despite making cheese now in bigger volumes.

Ventnor blog ran a nice little story about our success here and Isle of Wight Radio were quick to break the story too. Thanks guys!

Many of our friends took awards too including Andy and Sandy Rose at Two Hoots, Mark Robertson at Northumberland Cheese Company and Mark & Sarah Hardy at High Weald

Overall World Champ was Cornish Blue, made by Phillip Stansfield. Congratulations Phillip! It's great that a British cheese has taken the overall title. Proving that as a nation, we really can be proud of the cheeses that we produce.
